Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.

A little about me You must fight thru some bad days to earn the best days of your life- Anonymous Thru out my adult life there have always been one consistent way to describe myself. “I’m a Fighter” Trust me I have not always consider myself a fighter. There have been times I have felt defeated, there have been times I stop believing there was a better future. Somehow some way I have always found a fighting spark within me. When I was younger, I constantly asked myself, why is it everything so hard? Why do I have to fight for everything in life? Why does God ask so much of me? But regardless of my so many questions and to my surprise I never quit the fight. It is not in my nature to give up. So here I’m almost 38 years old healthy, with a successful career, a loving dog, amazing friends, a crazy family and I would not change my past because it made me who I’m, It made me the fighter I’m today. Three years ago, I started a journey at work having no idea it would forever change my life. It has been a transformation that shows you that when you are born a fighter your life needs to be challenged and shaken. That is how when you grow and transform. I have fought some of the worst days of my life and I have earned some of the best of my life. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico. My parents’ divorce when I was very young. I have struggled with my weight due to anxiety and depression for as long as I can remember. I have lived a life of Luxury and I have lived a life of eating $.25 cents ramen noodles. I have travel to exotic places, and I have had to made up excuses to stay home because I don’t even have money for gas. I made amazing decisions and some in which common sense was not even in my vocabulary. Every single time I have been a step away of quitting there has been that voice within me that say “No girl, this is not you, this is not who you are, you are a fighter” The fact that you are drawn to read this means that you like me are also a fighter. After all if you are anywhere past your thirties you already survived the 80’s that alone put you in the “fighter“ category. Here is the thing, I believe “We are ALL born fighters” some people start since before they are born. Is that baby that against all odds is born and survive. Some people have a hard childhood and fight every single day since then. Some manage to live a pretty sheltered life something happens, and they must start swinging punches and trust they will make it. Regardless of the situation we all have that fighting spirit within us. I’m a fighter so are you.
